08.09.2010 Art gallery wedding party | Paula & Roy | East London
Paula and Roy are such a gorgeous couple and there were so many things about their wedding that I just adore!
The wedding celebrations were held over two days, which meant two dresses (inspired thinking Paula!) Their official ceremony was on day one and took place in the amazing round room at Islington Town Hall. I worked alongside lovely Kitty Phillips Photography to second shoot the ceremony and the reception afterwards, which was at The Imperial China Restaurant in London’s Chinatown. I love second shooting as I get to shoot a lot of background details and it was impossible not to get carried away with the vibrancy and colours of the Chinese reception and of Chinatown itself.
Check out the traditional tea ceremony where the bride and groom serve tea to all of the guests. In return, the newlyweds receive lucky red envelopes (“lai see,” which means “lucky”) filled with money or jewelry. I loved the scarlet keepsake cloth too, a traditional form of the guest book, on which guests of old would have signed their heartfelt wishes to the bride and groom in brush and ink.
For the second party of their wedding celebrations Paula and Roy threw a huge party in the East End of London at the uber cool Black Rat Press Gallery in Hoxton. They loved the work of Matt Small, one of Black Rat Press’ artists, and they had it reinstalled in the gallery space as a backdrop to their celebrations. The gallery was a fantastic choice of venue and their party rocked on into the small hours, as all happening Hoxton parties should!
