In both 2009 and 2010 I’ve been honoured to have my photographic work selected for the AOP Open Awards (Association of Photographers).  The AOP awards receive over 1,500 entries from around the world and judges choose a selection of around 80 photographs to feature in the annual show.

In 2009 I had four photos selected for the show and on the opening night I was absolutely delighted to win one of the seven Judges Choice Awards for my portrait of a swimmer.

My photo was selected by Deborah Brown (now Castle), Picture Director at Grazia, who commented “I love the sense of narrative in this image, and the possibilities of what is happening.  Her face has a wonderful expression of blank-faced expectation.  The translucency of the plastic goggle straps give it a comic feel, as if the swimmer is some sort of alien.  All this, combined with a lovely use of light and composition, makes this picture really stand out for me.”

I can’t tell you how proud I am!
